Welcome to Brave Star Books, an imprint of Orion Lakes Books (“Brave Star Books,” “we,” “us”). By placing an order or using our website you agree to these Terms. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy.

What we make

We create a personalized hardcover children's book that places your child into an illustrated story, using one photo you upload along with a few details (first name, age, and an optional dedication). Each book is custom-made for you and printed on demand.

How the illustrations are made (AI disclosure)

Our illustrations are generated using artificial intelligence. We use your uploaded photo as a reference so the illustrated character resembles your child, then place that character into a carefully written story. The result is an artistic, illustrated likeness. It is an interpretation, not a photograph or an exact reproduction, and small variations between pages are a normal part of the illustrated style. By ordering, you understand and accept that the artwork is AI-generated and stylized.

Who can order, and consent to use a child's photo

You must be at least 18 and the parent or legal guardian of the child in the photo, or have the explicit permission of that parent or guardian. When you upload a photo you confirm you have the right to share it with us and consent to our using it solely to create your book, as described in our Privacy Policy. You may not upload a photo of any child without that authority. We are not a service directed at children; orders are placed by adults.

Your photo and your rights

You keep all rights to the photo you upload. You grant us a limited license to use it only to produce and fulfill your book (including processing it through our illustration and printing partners described in the Privacy Policy). We do not sell your photo, and we do not use it to train AI models. You can ask us to delete it. See the Privacy Policy.

Orders, pricing and payment

Prices are shown on the website and may change, but the price you see at checkout is the price for your order. Payment is processed securely by Stripe; we never see or store your full card details. Because each book is made to order, we begin production after payment.

Production and shipping

We aim to produce and ship your book within the timeframe shown at checkout. Delivery dates, including any “arrives before Christmas” estimates, are good-faith estimates and depend on our print and shipping partners; they are not guarantees of a specific delivery date.

Returns, reprints and our guarantee

Because every book is personalized and made to order, it cannot be resold and is not returnable for a refund simply for a change of mind. However, we stand behind our work:

If your book arrives damaged, has a printing or manufacturing defect, or contains an error we made (such as a misspelled name), contact us within 30 days with a photo of the issue and we will remake and reprint it free of charge.

Our satisfaction guarantee is being finalized and will be published here. One thing to note now: our guarantee covers our work, not the quality of the photo you provide. A blurry, dark, or low-resolution photo limits how well we can illustrate your child, so please upload a clear, well-lit, front-facing photo. We may decline or ask you to re-upload photos that do not meet a basic quality standard.

Acceptable use

You agree to upload only photos you are authorized to use, and not to use our service for any unlawful, harmful, or inappropriate content. We may refuse or cancel any order that violates these Terms and refund it.

Our content

The story text, page designs, characters, and brand are owned by Brave Star Books / Orion Lakes Books. When you buy a book you receive the physical keepsake and a personal, non-commercial right to enjoy it; you may not resell or commercially reproduce our story or artwork.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Our website and products are provided “as is.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect or incidental damages.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “last updated” date above shows the current version, and continued use of the service means you accept the current Terms.
